the great goodbye

It made me sad to leave
what was a relief became a burden
that day I decided enough was enough
I knew distrust and suspected
all that went

in the moments of envy I felt
for those who grasped differently
flowers without cradling them in death
guided from the never world back to hope
even though the tree uprooted lay on
the ground and all could see it

he passes with a blue finger
says oy! instead of goodbye
the other's grace
betrayed a methodical path toward that chamber of expulsion

my time with the children
cut short and plans changed at the last minute
allowed the real

execution of the acceptable self in favour of the bold
enjoyment of being human

a humane execution, the last cigarette drawn to the butt
